This most beautiful system of the sun, planets and comets, could only proceed from the counsel and dominion of an intelligent and powerful Being... This Being governs all things, not as the soul of the world, but as Lord over all.
― Isaac Newton, The Principia: Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy
Intelligent design is the scientific theory claims that life and the universe could not have arisen by chance and was designed and created by an intelligent entity. Intelligent design refers to a scientific research program as well as a community of scientists, philosophers and other scholars who seek evidence of design in nature. The theory of intelligent design holds that certain features of the universe and of living things are best explained by an intelligent cause, not an undirected process such as natural selection. Through the study and analysis of a system’s components, a design theorist is able to determine whether various natural structures are the product of chance, natural law, intelligent design, or some combination thereof. Such research is conducted by observing the types of information produced when intelligent agents act. Scientists then seek to find objects which have those same types of informational properties which we commonly know come from intelligence.
Although peer review is not the only factor in determining scientific merit, and certainly does not determine truth, it nonetheless is an important process in modern scientific research. The Discovery Institute maintains a bibliography of peer scientific research that support intelligent design.

The Discovery Institute publishes their latest scientific findings and research online at the Center for Science and Culture. The Center for Science and Culture is a Discovery Institute program that supports the work of scholars who challenge various aspects of neo-Darwinian theory and scholars who are working on the scientific theory known as intelligent design.
